How to take part in the consultation

The consumer duty comes into force on April 1st 2024 with a 12 month implementation period before it comes fully into effect.

Consumer Scotland has issued guidance for relevant public authorities on the consumer duty under provisions set out in the Consumer Scotland Act 2020

Before issuing guidance, Consumer Scotland must consult relevant public authorities and other persons as it considers appropriate and seek the approval of Scottish Ministers.

We are now consulting on the draft guidance and we want to hear views from all those public bodies affected, as well as consumer groups and the public.

Take part in the consultation

The consultation closes on 16th June.

Feedback from the consultation will be used to prepare a final version of the guidance which will be published ahead of the duty’s full implementation in April next year.
